Styles
Breed Standard Clip - This can be done in a long style or shorter and easier to maintain, but follows the typical grooming style of the breed. Breed standards are used to highlight the specific shape and features of the breed.
Utility clip - Also known as a shavedown or kennel cut, this is the shortest, easiest clip to maintain. The body, legs and head are all done at this same short length, or the head and tail can be left longer. This is the easiest groom to maintain, as little to no brushing is needed in between grooms if done on a regular schedule. A utility clip can be done at longer lengths, but this will require more at-home maintenance. This cut tends to follow the natural shape of your dog, and gives legs a skinnier stick-like appearance.
Puppy cut - This is a shorter body, and longer legs, tail and head, to create a cute look. The face is usually done in a round, fluffy appearance. This clip requires regular brushing to keep the longer parts knot free, and to prevent it needing a shavedown at the next appointment.

Between the ages of 3-12 weeks, puppies are in a "Socialisation Period" where they develop social skills and learn to adapt to different environments. It is crucial in this period that your puppy is exposed to lots of people, dogs, noises and situations to help them grow into a well-adjusted dog. Starting your puppy young means they are quicker to adapt to brushing, handling, washing and blow-drying, making maintenance at home easier as well. A well adjusted dog is a lot easier to groom and maintain! There is no risk to washing and trimming a puppies coat. Puppies must have all their required vaccinations to be allowed outside the home and around other dogs. |
